Hi! Thanks for visiting my website. I am a former primary teacher - registered as We and Us Ltd. Educational Design Services. In recent years, I run courses for teachers in SCRATCH programming for children (NCTE approved), based in Navan Education Centre. I am widely respected as co-author of Mathemagic - the textbook used in most Irish primary schools. Coupled with my IT experience, I have exceptional ideas about improving standards of Numeracy and IT literacy in Irish primary education. Over a 45-year period as a teacher and course tutor, I have built up an extensive range of teaching materials. On this web site I am offering these resources entirely free to teachers in good faith and on the condition that copyright of my intellectual property is respected. I hope teachers find them useful. All that's required is high speed internet access, Adobe®Reader and a colour printer. There is also an extensive range of free Irish resources on my second web site which is www.isfeidirliom.ie As a company, I sell Flash programming, graphic design and publishing services. PLEASE NOTE: There is no subtle marketing and there is nothing for sale on either of my sites.
My years in the primary classroom (and as tutor since 1981 in Navan Education Centre) brought home to me that teachers could often do with resources which are not commercially available - local maps and school plans, specialised charts, work sheets, games for larger groups, customised booklets, classroom management resources, áiseanna Gaeilge,(Irish resources) etc. Not every teacher is creative nor an accomplished artist and all teachers because of their busy schedules, appreciate freebies especially those which enliven a lesson or add colour and interest to the learning environment and in general ease the workload. I often combined my classroom experience, creativity and computer skills and expertise to re-customise old resources and create and publish new ones. It's what I'm told I'm 'very good at'.
If you don't have high-speed internet access or your school printer can't produce high quality prints, we suggest that you avail of the services of Navan Education Centre which has a Resources Development Service for printing and laminating large format A3-size posters 42x30cm approx., A2-size posters 60x42cm approx. and A1-size charts 84x60cm approx. They also have a binding service for booklets. Navan Education Centre is a not-for-profit organisation and all you pay are the costs of printing, laminating and the postage. The Resources Development Service in Navan has produced an even wider range of resources for teachers. All can be seen on their brochure. A tree always stood in the corner of the classroom. A new 'quick-mâché' tree was made each September. In senior classes the children were more involved in constructing the tree than in junior classes but whatever the age group, the children always took ownership of the tree. As the picture illustrates, the Autumn tree was given a new appearance in Winter. Again in Spring. During the year it became a focal point and was incorporated into some lesson plans. In response to your enquiries about making the tree, we have uploaded two pages of illustrated instructions. They are handwritten but we will produce a computer-drawn version soon. Tá súil againn go mbeidh na hábhair múinte ar an suíomh idirlín seo úsáideach agus tairbheach do mhúinteoirí. Tá an-chuid ábhar againn agus tógfaidh sé tamall, chun an suíomh a chríochnú. Tá tús maith déanta agus táimid ag obair air. Más mian le múinteoir ábhar structúrtha ar leith a lorg, má tá sé againn cheana féin cuirfimid suas é agus mura bhfuil, d'fhéadfaimis é a chruthú más beag an obair í. Os rud é go bhfuil an-chuid 'spam' ag timpeallú, más mian le haon duine ríomhphost a chur chugainn, is gá na focail "abhar muinte nua" a chur sa bhosca dár teideal- 'Ábhar'. Beir bua.
If you have questions about the classroom tree, please put the words 'crann seomra' in the subject box of your e-mail.
